Pine Bluff, AR, February 8, 2013 - Simmons First National Corporation (NASDAQ-GS: SFNC) recently announced the promotion of David W. Garner, Senior Vice President and Controller to Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer according to J. Thomas May, Chairman and CEO of Simmons First National Corporation.

According to Bob Fehlman, Senior Executive Vice President, CFO and Treasurer, "David is one of our Company’s shining stars, and this promotion represents a well-deserved recognition of his expanded duties within our Company.  As Simmons First has continued to grow, David's responsibilities have expanded exponentially, especially in the area of regulatory reporting, strategic planning and investor relations”.

David Garner has more than 15 years of audit and accounting experience with Simmons First. Prior to joining Simmons First, Garner served as a staff accountant for Priddy & Holifield P.A., CPA and a regulatory accountant for Stephens, Inc. Garner joined Simmons First in 1997 as an Auditor and served as an Accountant, Management Accounting Officer and Assistant Manager of Corporate Planning and Assistant Vice President of Corporate Planning prior to being elected Vice President of the Finance Group in 2004 and being elected Vice President and Controller later that same year. He was elected Senior Vice President and Controller in 2006 and holds that title today along with the title of Chief Accounting Officer.

Thomas May, Chairman and CEO, added “David's duties have expanded in his support of the recently announced succession plan.  As CEO, I work with David on a daily basis and it is his "can do" attitude and willingness to take on any assignment that makes me and our CFO look better than we deserve. David Garner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and received the designation of Certified Public Accountant in 1996 and Certified Risk Professional in 2002. In 2009, he was named to the Arkansas Business “40 under 40”. He has attended the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ National Banking School at the University of Virginia and is a member of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Investor Relations Institute.

Garner is a graduate of the second class of Leadership Arkansas and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Arkansas Arts & Science Center and the Lake Saracen Association and is a member of the Pine Bluff Downtown Rotary Club. He has previously served as a Board member for the Arkansas Governor’s Quality Award, President of the Board of Directors for the Jefferson, Samples and Dexter Water Users Association and past volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity, CARTI-Festival of Trees and White Hall Softball League.
