The amounts given below are the maximum yearly amounts you can borrow. You
may receive less than these amounts if you receive other financial aid that is used to cover
a portion of your cost of attendance. You may also receive less if the period of study is
less than an academic year. Federal Stafford Student Loans are not made to students enrolled
in programs that are less than one-third of an academic year.
- Freshman: $5,500 per academic year,
if you are a first year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $3,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Sophomore: $6,500 per academic year,
if you have completed your first year of study and the remainder
of your program is at least a full academic year.
Only $4,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Junior: $7,500 per academic year,
if you are a first year studend enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $5,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Senior: $7,500 per academic year,
if you are a first year student enrolled in a least a full academic year.
Only $5,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Graduate: $20,500 per academic year,
if you are a first year student enrolled in a least a full academic year.
Only $8,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
Independent undergraduate students or dependent students whose parents are
unable to get a Federal PLUS Loan may borrow up to:
- Freshman: $9,500 per academic year,
if you are a first-year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $3,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Sophomore: $10,500 per academic year,
if you are a first-year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $4,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Junior: $12,500 per academic year,
if you are a first-year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $5,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Senior: $12,500 per academic year,
if you are a first-year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $5,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
- Graduate: $20,500 per academic year,
if you are a first-year student enrolled in at least a full academic year.
Only $8,500 of this amount may be in the subsidized loan.
Federal PLUS and GradPLUS borrowers may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any other financial
aid the student will receive, as determined by the school.
